Bangladesh Captain Mashrafe Bin Mortaza insists
the grass on the Eden Gardens wicket led them to believe it will assist
bowlers against Pakistan in the World Twenty20 Super 10s.
The Tigers were prepared to chase down a target of around 160-170 on Wednesday.
But
opting to bat first, Pakistan piled up a massive 201-5 before limiting
Bangladesh to 146-6 at Kolkata's iconic venue that had shades of green
on it.
"The wicket looked a bit grassy when we first saw it. We
felt the surface would grip the ball. But our judgement was totally
wrong. But Pakistan started really well," Mashrafe said after the match.
Bangladesh played with three pacers on what is considered to be a batting paradise.
Although
Ahmed Shehzad, Mohammad Hafeez and Shahid Afridi played imperious
knocks, young Taskin Ahmed, who has recently undergone bowling
assessment after being reported for suspect action, bowled beautifully.
He returned 2 for 32 in 4 overs that included 10 dot balls.
But
Mashrafe himself and Al-Amin Hossain went wicketless, bleeding 84 runs
in 6 overs, between them. They bowled just five dot balls.
